Learn how to prepare a professional curtain wall shop drawing booklet step-by-step. This Part 1 helps you to choose the correct system.
Static Calculation
General Info
Wind Load calculation will be according to the project’s requirement such as location, wind load zone, standards and codes.
Loading patterns such as Dead, Live, Extraordinary and wind load should be define as well.
The wind load will be obtain due to above items to calculate the suitable profile sections.

Curtain wall Analysis & Design
With the help of Structural softwares such as SAP, TEKLA or similar, we will calculate the mullion’s moment of inertia.
However, the glass will transfer the load to the mullions, we will chose the mullion & transom from the catalogue provided by customer.
We have to choose the biggest and critical glass size to consider in our calculation. So, you should check plans & elevations of project.
Therefor, You should make sure to choose the suitable transom in order to carry the glass weight.
You can contact us to help you for static calculation.
Mullion & Transom Sections
The mullion should withstand the applied wind load. So, The wind load acting on mullion element will calculate in its section.
Furthermore, The calculated wind load is applied on aluminum mullion and designed. On the other hand, according to local or global Standards, Wind Actions” the wind load acting on element is calculated.
Factors to check for Curtain wall design
There are some factors to check such as:
- CRITICAL STRESS IN ALUMINUM MULLION
- PROFILES DEFLECTION
- DES-FORMED SHAPE OF STRUCTURE
- IN-PLANE DEFORMATION DUE TO WIND LOAD
- D/C RATIO

We will check the glass specification such as combination and layer thickness in the next step. Stay with and follow us for the next parts to prepare a perfect curtain wall shop drawing.
